Serviam
SERVIAM is the motto of all Ursuline schools worldwide. The word Serviam is Latin for “I will serve”. It is inspired by the teachings of St Angela Merici, Foundress of the Ursuline Order.
At Ursuline College we encourage all of our students to use their unique gifts and talents to help those in need through acts of Serviam. By doing this students experience first hand the positive effects of giving themselves selflessly in service to others and see the impact of helping someone in need.
Serviam is part of the spiritual fabric of every student here at Ursuline College and for many the importance of living Serviam stays with them long after they leave the school which often translates into a lifetime of service that benefit others.
Acts of Serviam that some students have carried out at Ursuline College include:
- Fund raising for various charities, locally, nationally and internationally
- Presentations at various award ceremonies where they represented the school
- Helping of the elderly in the local community
- Supported reading
In recognition of the acts of SERVIAM undertaken by the students they are invited to a celebration tea party which is organised and hosted by the Sisters from the Ursuline Community in Westgate on Sea.
