BTEC Level 2 Travel & Tourism

Entry Requirements

2 GCSE’s A* - C Grade

Course Content

This course is designed to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the travel and tourism sector. It will: 

? give learners the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the travel and tourism sector 

? support progression to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic tourism course or an apprenticeship 

? give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of junior job roles across the travel and tourism sector, for example posts in travel agencies, visitor attractions and the tourist information centre. 

To Gain this qualification students will need to complete 4 units of work: 

 Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector  

This unit covers the main types of tourism in the UK, the contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UK economy and the different component industries that make up the UK travel and tourism sector. 

 Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations  

This unit covers what the different types of UK destinations have to offer, as well as locating tourist UK destinations and routes. 

 Unit 4: International Travel and Tourism Destinations  

This unit looks at ways which international travel and tourism destinations and gateways and reasons why it appeals to different visitors. 

 nit 5: Factors Affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism  

This unit covers the influential factors on tourism and why events such as natural disasters can have a significant impact on the sector. 

Assessment

Unit 1 is externally examined by a written exam paper. 

Units 2, 4 and 5 are examined by coursework. 

Students will be awarded with a Pass (P) Merit (M) or Distinction (D) dependent on the level of work submitted or score in the written exam.

Extra-Curricular

Students will be offered the opportunity to take part in a range of both onsite activities and visits to local and national tourist attractions.
