Entry Requirements

5 GCSE’s including C grades in English, Maths and GCSE PE

Course Content

PHED1 – Year  1 

External exam content: 

  • Applied exercise physiology 

  • Skill acquisition 

  • Opportunities for participation 

PHED2 – Year  1  

NEA internal assessment: 

  • Ability as a performer, leader or official in 2 sports 

PHED3 – Year  2 

External exam content: 

  • Applied physiology to optimise performance 

  • Psychological aspects that optimise performance 

  • Evaluating contemporary influences 

Assessment

Year 1 assessment includes: 

PHED1 external exam paper of 2 hours – 70% of AS qualification (35% of A level) 

PHED2 NEA (2 practical sport roles, assessed internally and externally moderated) 

30% of AS qualification (15% of A level) 

Year 2, Year 13 assessment includes: 

PHED3 external exam paper of 2 hours - 70% of A2 qualification (35% of A level) 

PHED4 NEA (1 practical role and piece of extended analysis and evaluation of that sport role)  

30% of A2 qualification (15% of A level)

Career Pathways

Entry to University to study undergraduate BSc courses such as Sports Sciences, Football Studies, Sports Coaching and Development, Sports Studies and Business, Sports Marketing, Physiotherapy. 

PGCE course to teach. 

Entry to college to study Personal Training Qualifications. 

Work for a National Governing Body.
