Entry Requirements

Five 9-4 grades at GCSE (or equivalent)

 

A grade 5 in Additional or Further Additional Biology GCSE is the minimum entry requirement.

Content relating to the subject qualification

Year 1  - Biological molecules, cell structure & division, Immune System, Exchange and transport systems, DNA, RNA and protein synthesis and Diversity and Selection.  There are also Mathematical components to study and the use of Statistics and 6 Practical assessments.

 

Year 2 – Photosynthesis & Respiration, Energy transfer and Nutrient cycles, Nervous system, Homeostasis, Genetics and Gene technology and populations in Ecosystems and evolution. There are also Mathematical components to study and the use of Statistics and 6 more practical assessment.

Assessment of the qualification

AS level exam:

 

Paper 1 - One hour (50% of AS)

Paper 2 - One hour (50% of AS)
