Course Overview

Students of the GCSE in Applied Business will investigate how businesses work, develop and apply their business knowledge, and enrich their understanding of business and entrepreneurialism in local, national and global contexts.

This will be achieved through the delivery of two Core Units, delivered over 2 years.

Unit One – Investigating how businesses work

Unit Two – Financial Records

Class assessment will take place at the end of each unit of study and each half term.

Unit One is assessed internally by means of a student produced Portfolio of work to complement the unit. Unit One accounts for 60% of the overall marks.

Unit Two is assessed externally by means of a written 60 minute exam.  Unit Two accounts for 40% of the overall marks.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Students will partake in a number of extra-curricular enrichment activities which are designed to complement and put into context the information covered on the course.  This will be achieved by means of a mixture of pre-arranged visits from local Business people, and also through excursions to local areas of commercial interest.
