Students will be introduced to a range of topics and skills within their first year of Art and Design. They will explore and develop drawing and mark making, colour theory, painting and 3D making skills.

The topics studied include still life, portraiture and landscapes which are linked to specific artists, cultures and skills. The projects are aimed to help students to start thinking creatively and to make connections to what they study and what they create.

Assessment

Students are assessed every term by their understanding and skills ability that they develop throughout the year. Students are also encouraged to peer and self-assess in each project.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Students are encouraged to join other year groups on extracurricular trips to local art museums such as, The Turner Contemporary and The Tate Modern.

A variety of clubs run throughout the year exploring different topics and skills, open to all year groups at KS3.

Year 8
